Visit Sacred Area

Visiting the sacred part of the synagogue is only allowed with a staff member during the guided tour. In accordance with Jewish tradition, we ask male visitors to wear head coverings in this area. This is offered to you on location. Covering is not necessary in the museum (cultural) part of the synagogue.

Food and drinks

Food and drinks are not allowed in the synagogue, except for the visitor's table.

Kosher-style food is served during private gatherings.

Photographing and filming

Photography is permitted, unless an exhibitor has set restrictions. Visitors and employees may only be photographed with permission.

For recordings for commercial use, management must give permission.

Wardrobe / luggage

Use of the cloakroom is free and at own risk. It is not mandatory to hand in coats at the cloakroom. Luggage (large suitcases) cannot be accepted. In all situations, the staff of Synagogue Groningen are authorized to check belongings or deny access to persons and/or their luggage.

Lost and found

Lost and found are delivered at the police station on the Rademarkt in Groningen after one monthe.

Pets

Pets are not allowed in the synagogue,  except guide/assistance dogs.

Strollers, buggies, wheelchairs and walkers
Strollers and buggies are allowed in the synagogue, as are walkers, wheelchairs and other aids for the disabled.

​

Identity

Please respect the Jewish identity and the monumental status of the synagogue during your visit. Propagating religious or political views is neither appropriate nor allowed in this location.

Camera surveillance
There is camera surveillance in and around the synagogue.
